Social Justice

Social Justice is our imperative.
As Unitarian Universalists we are called to come together in love and power to build a more just world. Living our values is the most fundamental way we grow as communities and as individuals.

"It is the church that assures us that we are not struggling for justice on our own, but as members of a larger community. The religious community is essential, for alone our vision is too narrow to see all that must be seen and our strength too limited to do all that must be done. Together, our vision widens and our strength is renewed."

Juneteenth Poem
I was invited to participate in a Juneteenth celebration at the Baha'i Temple in Wilmette in 2012 by one of my Interfaith Dialogue Committee partners. I wrote the poem above to share at that event.

Social Action Council

As the Social Action Co-ordinator I organized the UUA Social Justice Empowerment workshop, the 30 Days of Love campaign, our shared offering program, a monthly Social Action Film Series, oppor-tunities for meaningful engagement in service, advocacy, education and witness, and oversaw the annual budgets of the social action teams.

Racial Justice

Racial Justice is a central focus of my ministry and the main initiative of my ministerial internship. I lead the Black Lives Matter team at CCUU and co-facilitate Beloved Con-versations. You can read more about my work and beliefs about building a multi-cultural, racial just world below.

Community Organizing

I trained congregants and coordinated a congregational one-on-one listening campaign two years in a row, in which more than 20 members conducted almost 100 intentional conversations. These conversations helped members identify values and build commitment to living those values together. Below is the report back presentation from the first campaign.

I've made several visits to Springfield as well as visits to local legislator offices to advocate for racial and economic justice with Community Renewal Society.

Interfaith Dialogue

I have a deep commitment to and experience with interfaith relationship building, through dialogue and action. I have helped to create gatherings, large and small, of action and reflection built around our common values. Some of these experiences are highlighted below.
